Influenced by some of the world’s most legendary vocalists — Sam Cooke, Joe Cocker, Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday — Kansan Tanner Walle began making waves with the release of two studio albums just a few years apart – 2004’s It Was followed by 2007’s The Future of Tape. But it wasn’t just from album releases that Tanner began to make his mark; the singer/songwriter was touring five nights a week throughout the Midwest, where he began to turn heads with his unique showmanship and striking energy on the stage.

In 2007, Tanner moved to New York City where he began to infiltrate the scene with small club gigs, including regular residencies at Rockwood Music Hall, and co-billing with the likes of Wilco, Sara Bareilles and Norah Jones.

In Spring 2012, Tanner held a Kickstarter campaign to help release his third studio album entitled Shelf Life. The album release party sold out Rockwood Stage 2 where Walle donated 100% of the proceeds to Education Through Music.

In 2014, Tanner filmed and co-produced Desafinado, a television series airing on Canal Brasil, BBC America, and various networks in Portugal, Japan and Brazil. The show features Pierre Aderne, Brian Cullman, Madeleine Peyroux, Nellie McKay, Walle and many other songwriters sharing song, wine, and their stories of the music business.

Walle's 2013 release Bodega explored new territories on his musical journey, with vintage drum samples, synth milieus, and a glossy dream pop approach.

In 2017, Tanner again joined forces with Brazilian singer/songwriter Pierre Aderne, American songwriter Brian Cullman and winemaker Dirk Niepoort to pursue a new Portugal-based project entitled Rua das Pretas. The full-length was recorded between NYC and Lisbon, and produced by five-time Grammy winner Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Bjork, Brazilian Girls, Beck)

FORBES MAGAZINE called it “A unique mix of music, wine, travel, history and community began in Lisbon, Portugal, and is now trying to conquer the globe.” The album was created as a collaboration of artists from Portugal, Brazil, the United States and France, all invited by Pierre Aderne. Artists include Walle, Brian Cullman, Jesse Harris, Gabrielle Hartmann, João Barradas, Isabel Anjo, Maria Inês Paris among many others.

Tanner and the Rua das Pretas tribe toured Winter 2018 promoting the record, sharing stages with Seu Jorge among many others.

Tanner is currently recording his first solo album in nearly 6 years, and will be released in 2020.
